Legal Intake Coordinator, Part-time in Austin, TX

ROLE: PART-TIME LEGAL INTAKE COORDINATOR

Workers Defense is seeking a legal intake coordinator who is eager to help build worker power in Texas. The ideal candidate will have experience working directly with low-income workers and immigrants, and maintaining detailed notes and organized electronic and physical case files. They will also have strong communication skills—in both Spanish and English—that will allow them to communicate with empathy and develop relationships with Workers Defense members and prospective clients. A strong candidate should be committed to Workers Defense’s identity as a membership-based organization and to building worker power.

THIS ROLE IN ACTION:

  • Screening Workers Defense members and prospective clients for legal claims;
  • Managing physical and electronic case files and contacts in an electronic database;
  • Communicating clearly the staff attorney’s legal advice, referrals, and pro se support to clients and prospective clients; 
  • Grant reporting; 
  • Working collaboratively with the Employment & Legal Services Department and other WDP departments; and
  • Providing training sessions to Workers Defense members and community allies on workers rights.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • One to two years previous experience working directly with clients, particularly low-income or immigrant clients;
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking both Spanish and English;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Business Apps, and databases (basic data entry);
  • Experience managing different responsibilities and supporting the success of a team; and
  • Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and occasionally weekends.
